Furniture, Living Room, Modern

As a resident of the entertainment capital of the world, Los Angeles, I am often asked what my take is on an interior designer bio. A simple response is that I have seen it all before. I have seen people who can tell me all about the latest trends and I have also seen people who can tell me very little. In fact, I have found that the educated designers of today tend to limit themselves to telling me about the trends they follow. And that, I can tell you, is not much help. More often than not, it is the more informed a designer is about the world they live in the better decision making will be.

Interior Designer Bio Tips Overview

As someone who has worked in the industry for over 10 years now, I am asked all the time what my take is on the interior designer business. The honest answer is that I don’t have a set answer. The truth is, interior designer business is just like any other business in that the more experience an individual has, the better they can serve you. My advice is that if you want to break into the industry, gain some experience first, but most importantly – hire an interior designer who can show you all they know.

One thing is for sure, the interior designer business is definitely not for the timid. Today’s market is saturated with qualified professionals looking to move up the ladder. Don’t let that discourage you. In fact, the opposite is true. As competition increases, the hiring opportunities for interior designers will increase too.

Another tip I would give to potential interior designer job seekers is to find a mentor. Mentors are not always professional interior designers, but they do have many skills and insight into the interior designer business. While you won’t find a certified professional mentor in your area, I’ve met many designer/interiors who have mentors in their own field. This can be a great way to learn from the best and gain insight not always found in a classroom setting.

Final Words

My advice? Always do your homework when looking for a new career. Read as much as you can, attend conferences, get a feel for what the marketplace is really like, meet as many people as you can and never stop learning. That’s half the battle (and half of my money! ). Now go out there and have fun!
