Capacitors are one of the few electronic devices that can be designed so that their power supply is highly sensitive to even minor changes in voltage. This is why high voltage high capacitance capacitors are an integral part of all the electrical appliances that we use in our lives. The electric field created by electricity flowing through a wire is highly dependent on the size and the shape of the conductor and its thickness. Since the smallest changes can result in substantial power loss, high voltage capacitors are designed to deal with the spikes in voltage produced by power surges.
High Voltage Capacitors So Useful
All high voltage devices, even those that require lower energy to operate (such as some car stereos) have some form of protection built in to prevent permanent damage to them from adverse weather conditions and similar problems high voltage capacitors. The capacitor material used in these devices is specially designed to withstand changes in temperature and electrical currents and retain their charge state for a sufficiently long time. In order to create a long enough charging current, high voltage capacitors are often designed to be highly conductive, and the electrolytic coating within the surface makes this process much easier. Capacitors also tend to be larger than electrolytic capacitors, which allows them to better handle the higher currents they are required to supply.
Capacitors also offer the option of having a surface layer of metalized electrolyte, which can improve the resistance of some high voltage methods of transportation. Unfortunately, there are a number of downsides to electrolytic capacitors, which means that many electronic industry organizations avoid using them.
However, because of their excellent abilities to provide high levels of charge, they are still widely used. High voltage capacitors are also useful in industrial settings, especially for the production of electric motors. They are often attached to the motor itself or to conductive tools and other equipment to help boost electrical output.
